Genie Genie In A Bot-ul (Barbara Eden in the 60's It's Not)

DSCF8685.JPGGood gosh, why the hell should I keep this piece of waste? Well, I don't know. What is it? Oh come on. If you've ever had the suburban lifestyle and you're older than when WEBTV came out, you're family likely had this very device or something similar. It's the remote control for a Genie Garage Door opener. It takes a 9V battery. It's only got one button in the center and a screw on the back to access the battery.

DSCF8686.JPGI got it when I got the current domicile I dwell in. It had a belt clip that was likely wire, for clipping it to your sun visor. Look at those electronics. Real soldering. Real electronics board. This was likely made in in the USA, but I wouldn't doubt by the time this was made, if the remote controls and remote electronics were made off shore. Likely the rest of the drive was USA made. I forget what failed, but rather than just repairing it, we replaced it. A new opener with teensy remotes. It's broken three times since and the replacement parts were discontinued while a new "improved" part was made. Hopefully the third time with the new part will be fine. Still, see what good old Genie construction was compared to the newer "Home Despot/Wally/Loz/Targay" openers? Cheaper Cheese.

DSCF8687.JPGThey even drilled a hole in the case so the signal would get out. I suppose I put this in my junk box for...well...what am I planning on getting another classic GENIE garage door opener at a yard sale that I can reinstall? Am I going to modify this to turn on/off the flow from the Kegerator? Am I going to bury this so that some intrepid time traveller finds this in a thousand years to find out how we turned on/off the flow from our Kegerators? Is it just another thing for my junk box that makes me nostalgic for the way I used to open the garage door the first time I used one of these backĀ  in 1982? Hmmmmm.
